Export Session Info as Text: Not as useless as it sounds!

Export Session Info as Text (located in the file menu) is an often overlooked feature that has several great uses, especially in post production.  I will go over two ways that I have used it in the past week, though there are many other ways to use it.

I was asked to provide a list of music cues for an hour long TV show, with file names, and start and end times.  The show had wall to wall music that changed often.  Making a list by hand would have taken several hours, so I used Export Session info as Text.  After exporting, I opened the text file, deleted all the info except for the music tracks. The cues were listed in order with file name, start point, end point, and length. Total time, about a minute. What a great time saver!

When cueing ADR I create a track for each major character. For each line I create a blank region (with shift-option-3:Consolidate selection) and name the region the name of it the line that needs to be replaced.  When I’m done, Export Session info as text gives me a list (organized by character) of each line, with timecode.  From there you can make up any cue sheets that you, the actors, or director might need.
